MAGGIE 3 by Alison Mills Newman

I’m not just saying this because Mrs. Newman is my mom, but she is one of those unsung legends who really should be celebrated and hailed as one of our pioneers of this generation. She was an original cast member of  the historic and ground breaking shows “Julia” starring Diahann Carroll, playing the babysitter Carol Derring, and was also in the original cast of, “The Leslie Uggams Show,” playing Leslie’s hip sister Oletha, on a segment titled “Sugarhill.”

My lovely mother has accomplished many mile stones in her life time that I could go on and on about-so this particular blog is about her AWESOME time piece fiction novel “MAGGIE 3”. Nobel Peace Winner Tonie Morrison has commented that “Alison has done a rare thing, written with beauty and powers and purity about a woman.” But don’t just take mine and Toni’s word for it. Come out this Thursday and hear Alison read from her. In the meantime here’s the first chapter to give you just a glimpse.

Today I ran across this vid on my facebook. Can you imagine that some say this video is racist? I could write a whole essay on this subject, but for now i’ll just say this song and video is awesome. It’s about time we see and hear messages about loving who we are in our natural state. I absolutely love it. What are you thoughts??

The Wedding

I received this amazingly, beautiful and touching story in an email today. It brought tears to my eyes and gratefulness to my heart- I just had to share it with you.

Her name is Katie Kirkpatrick, 21 yrs old. Next to her is her fiancé, Nick, 23. This picture was taken prior to their wedding January 11th, 2005. Katie has terminal cancer and spends hours in chemotherapy.

Flowers and Grass

Thinking and thinking of what to call my blog, it came to me after eating some wheat pasta with Chinese stir fry veggies. I’m sure the nutrition oiled my wheels in my brain since I had one bowl of oatmeal with soymilk and raw sugar for breakfast or should I say brunch, which had been at least 8 hours ago. I know not good eating habits. Well, I’m working on it. So why not Flowers and Grass. That’s what I think we are. After reading Isaiah 40:7; “ The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the Lord bloweth upon it, surely the people is grass” We are all Flowers and Grass meaning that life is fleeting and the only that really matter is love. So pursue love in your life-time since it doesn’t last forever (at not least here on earth) the challenge is have the right perspective. I’m a Leaf (more on that meaning) and I am a flower and this is my blog about my life that I choose to enjoy and make an effort to view in a positive perspective until the good Lord breathes on me.
